“Hey Chambers, Sky here yet?” Anthony asks coming into the office. The last few weeks have been peaceful since I had to endure that meeting with Waterford. I am not calling it a date, you go on a date with someone you have some interest in, and I had none for that bastard. I ended up being with him at The Autumn Teahouse for two hours. He kept trying to make conversation and I just answered what he asked me when we were alone. The entertainment proved to be a good way not to have to talk to him before the meal and I would have enjoyed is afterward had he not waved them off. I cut him off before he started getting to a level of personal that I had no intention on sharing with him stating that I had a meeting to attend shortly. He then made the comment that I work too much and I replied that it was because I work for a company that is ten times larger than what he runs and left it at that.

I got back to my apartment and needed a shower. There were some instances where I could have sworn he was trying to hit on me. I felt like his eyes were still on me like some kind of slime. It makes me sick to my stomach to think that an idiot like him would ever be interested in me. Thank goodness there’s my Sky. I got out of the shower and heard someone knocking on my door so I answered in my towel to see that it was my Sky. He was very pleased with the attire I was wearing; enough so that he was late to class the next morning.

“No, he won’t be here until one. He’s in class,” my Sky managed to get all but one of his summer classes online so he only has to go to the campus once a week for three hours. It’s also the only day I come in after six a.m. It’s cute to see him rushing around at the last minute, mainly because I keep him in bed until the last possible minute.

“Oh well I’ll just talk to him later,” Anthony says and turns around. That’s new. Wait…

“How are things with you and Giovanni?” he stops and turns around like he’s been caught. I thought so.

“H-How did…”

“You haven’t been around much and the times that you have been you’ve been with Daniels.”

“Damn, as I that easy to read?”

“I’ve just been exposed to you long enough to be able to tell,” and of course Giovanni has called a few times asking about his likes and dislikes. I don’t know how, but those two seemed to work for some reason.

“He’s uber happy about the turnover the underground has been making lately. He’s already thinking about purchasing the building next door so he can expand it since it also has a basement area as well,” he says coming back over to lean against my desk, “Say, what does G like?”

“Like as in…”

“Stuff. You’d be one to know since you dated him for five years.”

“Property, cars, having sex on his private beach in Italy, blue jeans that fit you well.”

“I’m not a big fan of Italy.”

“You asked what he likes,” I say looking at him.

“…How big is his place in Italy?”

“Which one?”

“The one with the beach.”

“Big enough.”

“…You think bro would mind me skippin’ out for a few weeks?”

“As long as I don’t have to come bail you out of anything like last time, no.”

“It’s just Italy Chambers, it’s not-,”

“You said the same thing about Greece the last three times you went and I still ended up having to bribe officials to keep you from seeing jail time,” I could have bought an island with the money I had to shell out to keep him out of jail, the dumb ass.

“…He’ll have a fit…”

“If you go to Italy Giovanni will keep you plenty occupied and out of trouble,” I say looking back to my screens, “And make sure he knows you’re leaving this time. And keep Giovanni with you if you go into the cities.”

“Cool, thanks Chambers,” he says walking to the door.

“And make sure the blue jeans are relaxed fit or you’ll spend most of the time naked…not that you’d care though…”

I see him stop out of the corner of my eye, “Why’s that?”

“He doesn’t share and he won’t take you or send anyone to shop for clothes for you until the day you’re supposed to leave.”

“I’ll just take-,”

“He’ll burn the rest of the clothes you take with you,” I look at him for his reaction. As expected, wide-eyed and open-mouthed. My first trip to his villa on the coast I wore a pair of bootcut jeans and while we were walking along the shore he had his butler burn the rest of my clothes and hide his so I was stuck in his villa in Italy for three weeks naked. His staff acted like it was perfectly natural to have someone walking around the house naked. Being pissed off at him did nothing so I had to stick it out, but he didn’t get what he wanted either so it became more of a test to see who’d give in first. It ended in a stalemate. Our last day there he sent out his butler for clothes and came back with thirty pairs of relaxed fit blue jeans. Thankfully he only did that when we went to Italy and it only happened…twice.

The corners of his lips then turn upwards, “...Giovanni burned your clothes?” I look back at my screens. He walks back over to my desk, “I’ve got to hear this.”

“No.”

Out of the corner of my eye I see him get a pouty face, “Aw come on Ares, you gotta tell!”

“No.”

“Come on, you wore something that ended up with you being naked, spill it! What’d ya wear?”

“You better tell your brother you’re leaving before he starts his meeting with what chip manufacturer,” he knows that meeting will take at least two hours and I have a feeling he’s already packed to head out at a moment’s notice.

“…Damn you Ares, I’m gonna find out,” he says running off to catch his brother before the meeting starts…which is in three minutes. Good luck with that. I smile and change my screens.

I come back from my meetings and sit down at my desk. I look over the screens lazily until one is switched to the view of my Sky’s workspace. There is a large stack of papers on his desk. I look at my watch, two twenty-one. My phone rings.

“Sir you need to come to six nine four,” the watcher ends the call and I make my way out to the room.

I turn down the hall opposite the elevators and come to room six ninety-four. It’s the surveillance room that looks over the university. I walk in and the watcher, Rena, cues up the recordings, “You were in a meeting when this happened sir,” she says not looking at me. Her main screen starts running. It’s Sky’s truck. He comes into view and is steps from his truck when a group of men surround him. He immediately goes on the offensive and manages to wound two of them before being overtaken by the other five. A van pulls into the corner of the screen and he’s put inside and they leave the area, “The numbers on the van aren’t registered to that vehicle.”

“Time?”

“Two p.m. He was talking with other students after class. None of which match the size of the men that took him.”

“Who’s on it.

“Taylor, Rames, Bradshaw, and Hain.”

“Where’s Wren.”

He left the building at eleven-thirty and hasn’t returned. Rose and Camby are searching for him now.”

“Make sure one six two is active.”

“Robert and Melissa are there now. Jason is active in four six eight. Sun is also stationed at the complex just in case.”

“Thank you Rena.”

“We’ll find him sir.”

I walk back to my office. I can’t…this can’t be happening… By pure reflex I make it inside my office and sit down, I’m running all kinds of scenarios. I stop running them when Waterford comes to mind. He dies, end of story.

A hand waving in my line of sight disrupts my thoughts of efficiently disposing of his body, “Sky not back yet?” It’s Anthony. I can only stare at him, “…Ares, what’s wrong?” his look becomes serious, “…Where’s Sky?”

“…Taken…”

“What?”

“…He’s been…taken…”

“When? Do you kno….” I can only sit there when I realize that it’s come from my mouth that my Sky’s been taken from me. I know Anthony’s still talking to me but I can’t hear him. I see his movements but I don’t react until I feel something wet on my face. I reach up to find myself wiping away tears. I’ve never cried for anyone in my life. No one has really cared about me enough for me to even bother doing such an act…until my Sky. It shocks me. My whole existence on this planet, people have hated me for no reason, wanted nothing from me, wanted to use me until they’ve had their fill and tossed me aside, only feigned at loving me, or feared me until Sky came into my life. He hasn’t been a part of my life for a full year and yet he’s… I need him, I need my Sky.

“Ares. Ares, come on, talk to me.”

“…My Sky…”

“We’ll get him back.”

I look at Anthony, the look in his eyes is sincere. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. I can’t loose it, not now. I have to stay focused so I can find my Sky. I must stay focused so I can make sure all that have touched him die painfully. I will wage war on those who dare take from me.

“…He’ll be trouble.”

“Yeah, those eyes show it…his dad’s eyes. That cheap bastard was nothing but trouble. He’ll be just like him I bet. You’re sendin’ him to the state?”

“Absolutely. I want none of her mistakes around my kids. At least she gave him a fitting name, Ares. A god I highly doubt, but he will bring about a war someday…”

I open my eyes to see Daevin here as well. He’s talking to his brother, likely trying to figure out what’s going on. His face shows calm, but his eyes are hoping that I don’t take matters into my own hands. He’s already seen the damage I can do. That’s one of the reasons he hired me in the first place.

Flashback – 13 years ago

“That was some job you did last month with Nan Electronics.”

I look at the man to my right at the bar. He sticks out like a sore thumb in his crisp navy blue suit, but with this bar, it didn’t matter, “I don’t know what you’re talkin’ about.”

He leans closer, “Of course. Let me buy you another?”

“No thanks.”

“I know your friend. Tate Andrews. He says you do good work for a drop-out.”

“I’m not a drop-out. I graduated high school. There was a three-way tie for valedictorian and since my principal didn’t like the fact that a kid like me could be so smart he came to my place and gave me my diploma and told me not to come to graduation ‘cause I wasn’t welcome there. He also hoped I’d die in a gutter somewhere.”

“No college?”

“What’s the point? I make enough now.”

“And you’re well worth it. But you could make so much more.”

“What, if I go to college?”

“No, if you work for me.”

“Who the hell are you?” like I don’t already know.

“My name is Patrick. Patrick Daevin. Owner of the Siren Corporation.”

“So why the hell are you slummin’? I’m sure you can find nicer ass on your side of the tracks.”

“I’m not looking for ass. I’m looking for you. You are Ares Chambers, right?”

“If you know Andrews then you should know that was a stupid question you just asked.”

“My mistake.”

I look over at the bartender, he was busy feeling up the prostitute at the other end and the two others over by the pool tables weren’t paying any attention to whatever wasn’t round and on a green table.

“What do you want?”

“I like your work. Tate said that you can do a variety of things.”

“Yeah, so.”

“I need someone like you in my company.”

I sit back and look at him, “Someone to do your dirty work?”

“Not necessarily that. I know you learned your security techniques under him and you have a good client base in the two years you’ve gone freelance. And from what happened with Nan, I can tell you’re not the kind of man to be taken lightly.”

That was a nice job. The owner felt he didn’t have to pay for my services and hired someone to tweak my system. It resulted in his company shutting down for three days while I went through and fixed what that amateur he hired tried to do. I know when someone fucks with my work because I set it up to shut down when someone makes an attempt. He got ill with me and told me my work was inferior and a few nights later his company went up in flames from a gas pipe rupturing beneath his building. The pipe ruptured from the explosion I set inside the building but they’ll never be able to come to that conclusion.

“Why should I believe you?”

“Because Tate knows that you’re the one to get the job done.”

“…He wouldn’t take your offer.”

He grins slightly, “…That too. He said that you’d be better suited for the job, that you had a better look than he did. I have to agree there. You do look a lot better than he does.”

“You’re not gettin’ my ass Daevin.”

“I’m not here looking for it Chambers. I want you.”

“I’ll think about it.”

“Can I have an answer in three days? I do have others to check out.”

“What others.”

“A man named McMichaels, Overton, a woman named Mariella.”

“Out of business, overseas in prison, and hates working for men that aren’t married.”

“Oh really? Why doesn’t she like that?”

“She likes to play with their wives.”

“I guess that just leaves you.”

“…Guess it does.”

“You can keep your client base. I have no problem with you doing that.”

“I wasn’t going to drop them.”

“I can show you around tomorrow if you’d like.”

“I’ve got a job. I’ll call you when I’m done,” he moves to take a card from his breast pocket, “Don’t bother, I know it.”

“You do?”

“Andrews said you’d come calling sooner or later. He said you liked how I took care of Nan a week after.”

“…So you were expecting me?”

“I thought that a man with all your resources would have found me before now.”

“You are quite difficult to get a hold of Chambers, and that can prove useful in my company.”

“Just don’t make me regret this Daevin. And don’t ever piss me off.”

--end flashback

“Who are you looking at to be behind this?” he asks.

Waterford and Wren are the primaries.”

“Are you sure To-,”

“If there is the slightest chance he’s involved he dies, end of story.”

“Ares-,”

“Do not fuck with me Daevin. I don’t care if he’s your best friend from whenever. He was warned and he will pay,” Daevin looks at me with a stone face, “I am clearing his debt as well. Use account eight four two nine six seven zero six one one.”

“Ares…”

“As soon as this is over I’m done.”

“Ares be reasonable, please.”

“The only fucking reason he’s in this situation now is because of your best fucking friend Patrick.”

“If Tobias has a part in this I-,”

I will handle it.”

“Ares…”

“I told you never to piss me off Patrick, and you’ve done just that.”

“Ares, I won’t have you leaving on those terms. Let’s find out who took Daniels and then go from there.”

“I’ve got my people on it.”

“Good. Go get a drink. I’ll handle it from here.”

“Not happening. These are my people.”

“And all of you work for me. I’m telling you Ares, I will handle this.”

“Then I quit.”

“No Ares, that isn’t going to work with me.”

“You can’t keep me here.”

“Yes I can.”

“Come on Ares,” Anthony says, “Let’s just find Sky first, then you two can talk about this later.”

I’m about to say something then my phone rings, “Yes.”

“You really should be more careful with your pets,” the distorted voice says to me, “If they aren’t trained properly they could be put down for attacking someone.”

Don’tyoudare…”

“Fear not my dear Ares, I’ve haven’t put him down. I’m having too much fun playing with him. Would you care to listen? Oh, I know, you’d like to see it wouldn’t you. Don’t worry, that will be arranged. One of your people should be arriving to your office with his laptop. Then you’ll get to see.” The line goes dead.

“Who was it?” Anthony asks.

I take a breath to calm down, “The voice was electronically distorted and for the most part untraceable until they call again,” I say turning to my keyboard. I type in a sequence then connect my cell to a port, “Should whoever call back I’ll be able to record the conversation so I can clean it up.”

“What did he say?” Daevin asks.

“That I’ll be able to see what’s going on when one of my team-,”

“Sir,” comes Jeremy over the speaker to the side of the screens, “Taylor is in the building and he has Daniels’s messenger bag. He’s in the elevator now.”

I press the button at the bottom of the speaker, “Thank you,” I reply. My phone rings. I activate the speakerphone, “Yes.”

“Sir, Rose and Camby have located Wren. He’s at his house in Middlebury. They are searching the perimeter now.”

“He left because he was feeling sick. He said something about bad sushi,” Daevin said.

“Bradshaw, Rames, and Hain?”

“Are still looking sir. Loxsin, Mair, and Richards have been informed and are searching as well. I’m still trying to get a hold of Lee and Iha.”

“When you reach Lee and Iha, send them to fifty-five eighty-six West Normandy. If anyone of Waterford’s people ask, it’s a follow up inspection.”

“Yes sir,” she says and ends the call.

“Ares, I can take over on this.”

“No. I’m doing it. I’ll find him.”

“Ares, I know that look in your eye,” Daevin says, “I know that you want to find him, but I also know that you’ll stop at nothing until you do.”

“And the problem with that is?”

“You don’t stop, that’s the problem. You’ll work yourself right back into the infirmary like last time. You do realize that you were unconscious for three days right? What good will you be to Daniels if you end up like that again?”

“Bro’s right Ares,” Anthony chimes in, “Let us help. We like him too,” I shoot him a look, “…In a non-sexual way, of course.”

A knock on the door halts our conversation. Taylor enters and hands over my Sky’s bag. I reach inside and take out his laptop. It boots up quickly as I sit it on my desk next to my keyboard. I scan his desktop icons and come across one labeled ‘For You Ares’. I double click on the icon and the movie player starts. The screen then displays my Sky being held down by four people. There’s duct tape over his lips and a blindfold over his eyes. He tries to free his arms and legs but the four holding him down are using their body weight to keep him in place. There’s a fifth person on his right side at his torso. He rips open his shirt with gloved hands. Buttons fly in every direction, one even in the direction of the camera. He then tears away his A-shirt baring his upper body, and then glides his hand down the middle of his body. My Sky struggles harder. The man then proceeds to unbuckle his belt and then his pants. He roughly pulls them down to his thighs exposing my Sky for them to see. The gloved hands ghost over his thighs before settling at his hips. He then starts stroking his length and my Sky stills, his chest heaving at the fact they’re touching him in such an intimate place. The gloved hand keeps moving and soon he’s fully erect and I’m seeing red. How dare they touch my Sky.

The man keeps going and causes my Sky to orgasm. He then switches places with the man to his right and he takes hold of my Sky. Daevin stops the footage and the screen goes dark. I close my eyes and take deep breaths. I’m shaking with anger, the room is silent. I hear voices around me, but my focus is the image that burned into my mind of my Sky being held down and assaulted. There was no sound but I could just as easily hear him in my mind screaming at them behind the tape. I could hear his breath as they made him climax. I could hear his pleas not to do it again. I know those pleas, I’ve heard my own…

“What are you d-doing? L-Let me go!”

“So you like boys, huh? Well then I know you’ll like a man.”

“No, please, no…”

“Shut up boy. I’m glad you aren’t my son. No man’d want a fag like you as their son.”

“Please, let me go. I’ll leave. I’ll leave and never come back.”

“Oh no, you’re gonna stay right here. You want it in the ass like you fags do, and you’re gonna get it.”

“NOOOOOOO!”

I shake my head. That will never leave me, but I can’t think about that now. I have to find my Sky. I open my eyes and look at Taylor, “Where did you find it?”

“The van was in an abandoned lot behind the old church at Brooks and Watt. The only thing inside was his bag. I opened the bag and felt that his laptop was warm. I didn’t check to see if there was anything on it. Bradshaw called Loxsin, Mair and Richards since they were closest in the area. We sent word with them to tell any others they came across the situation and to search as well.”

“Thank you. You can return,” I say automatically. He nods and leaves. Once the door is closed I sigh and run a hand through my hair. Now all I can really do is wait until the person calls again. I lean over to my phone and dial room six nine four.

“Sir?”

“Have everyone searching check in with you or Jason in thirty minute intervals and inform me when more people come on to search.”

“Yes sir. Rose and Camby have finished searching Wren’s perimeter and have found nothing. I’m sending them towards West Normandy now. Iha and Lee have been informed and are almost there.”

“Thank you,” I say and end the call. I get up from the desk and walk back to the kitchen, not looking in the direction of my Sky’s area. I step into the kitchen and make a fresh pot of coffee. I can’t close my eyes, I keep seeing him lying there struggling against them. I see their hands all over him. The coffeemaker finishes and I make myself a cup. After I sit the cream back in the refrigerator I look at the mug. I can’t bring myself to touch it. I lean against the counter pressing my palms flat against the surface. Water starts to cloud my vision and only clears when the drops fall from my lashes. How can this be that in such a short period of time one person can move me like this? I bow my head, tears still falling from my lashes onto the surface of the counter.

Time passes then I feel a hand on my back and warmth beside me. I close my eyes, more tears falling from them. There is an ache in my chest now. I must find my Sky.

“We will find him Ares. Pat will make damn sure of it,” Anthony says softly in my ear. His arm comes around my shoulders and I feel his lips press against my temple before his head leans against mine, “We aren’t gonna let you be without your Sky.”

I sit at my desk and sigh quietly. It’s been six hours since the call. There are twenty-eight people searching the city and nothing. I’ve managed to look at all of the footage that was left on my Sky’s laptop. These people will die, there will be no mercy for them. The footage was definitely taken inside the van as it proved later on with the turns and in the location of the old church, there are many areas where the roads aren’t taken care of as dictated by the camera movement. So far, I have to eliminate Wren as a suspect since the search at his home turned up nothing and he hasn’t left his premises since. The search at Waterford’s amateur smut production turned up nothing but an irate Waterford who was apparently in the middle of shooting pre-teen porn. One of the people involved was said to be similar to me. That is fucking creepy as my Sky would call it. His maintenance fee just went up a couple thousand. My phone rings to thankfully break my train of thought.

“Yes.”

“Sir there is someone here with a package for you. They are in the lobby.”

I bring up the lobby on my main screen and zoom in on Carol’s desk. There stands a messenger with a brown package under his arm as he leans against the desk, “Have Carol sign for the package,” I reply.

“He says that it has to be your signature. He needs the confirmation for his records.”

“And he won’t say who it’s from?”

“He was just told to deliver it. It was at the company he works for when he came on his shift so he has no idea who brought it in.”

“Have someone bring him up.”

“Yes sir.”

I end the call and sit back in my chair.

“Something from the kidnapper?” Anthony asks from over on the couch.

“Possibly, I haven’t sent for anything,” I answer. Six minutes later the lanky college student walks in to my office with the package, Francis close behind him. I stand up as he looks over my office and come to stand in front of him. I look him over as I sign the slip. His eyes are telling me that he’s seen me before.

“Have I seen you before?”

“I don’t know, have you?”

“Have you ever been to the university near here?”

“My assistant is attending the university.”

“Is he in design?”

“Yes.”

He looks me over, then recognition comes into his eyes, “Wait, you’re that guy the department head was talkin’ about; the one that unloaded on some teachers a while back. Yeah he’s not a big fan of you. He was talkin’ on his cell the other day when I was walkin’ near him.”

I cock my brow at him, “How do you know he was talking about me?”

“He said that you had like jade colored eyes and you looked like some kind of model slash hitman or somethin’.”

I look like a hitman? “What did the department head say?”

“I don’t know man, I really didn’t catch all of it.”

“Tell me what you remember.”

“Somethin’ about puttin’ him in his place. That he knew people. But that’s all bull man. I hear he likes to talk a lot since his family knows a lotta rich people. If he did then why is he a department head at a university? They don’t make squat.”

“Chambers, could this be worth looking into?” Daevin asks.

“Could be,” I say, “Do you remember anything else?”

“Nah man, just some talk about faculty parties and other school shit. Has…he done somethin’?”

I pull out my money clip and hand the messenger some bills. He looks them over, his eyes wide when he realizes that I just gave him four hundred dollars, “Thanks,” I say taking the package from his other hand.

“Hey, I’ll let ya know if I hear anything else.”

I nod and Francis takes him out of the office. I look over the package before tearing off the outer paper. I opened the lid of the box and see my Sky’s cell phone and a CD. I pick up the CD and underneath it is the white silk ribbon I tied his braid off with this morning. Oh yes, they die painfully.

“What is it?” Anthony says walking over to me. He and Daevin look inside the box. I hand the box to Daevin and step over to my desk. I put the CD in Sky’s laptop and it starts running. The movie player starts up again and there is my Sky in a darkened room with the only light being the one just above him as if he were in some kind of old police drama being interrogated. He’s bound to a bed naked. There is a thin cord running from between his legs and at the end is a control. The person holding the camera moves to the end of the bed where the control is and he shows us his gloved hand picking up the device. He turns the dial with his thumb and my Sky jerks and struggles. He keeps working the dial to its highest setting before dropping it back onto the bed and moving around to his left side. He slowly pans over my Sky’s body and stops when he comes to his length. Subtitles then appear at the bottom of the screen. Your pet seems to like his toy Ares. Just look at how hard he’s becoming. The view then moves back up to his face and then a hand reaches out and takes a fistful of my Sky’s hair. More subtitles appear. He has such beautiful hair Ares. I bet you love running your hands through it. He lets the locks stray from his hand and he moves back down my Sky’s body. He stops at his length and zooms in some. He keeps the camera there until my Sky orgasms then another line appears. Yes Ares, he really likes his toy. I think I’ll let him play with it a while. I look at the running time in the bottom corner of the player, two hours and six minutes. My phone rings and I put it on speaker.

“Yes.”

“Mr. Chambers, it’s Carol. That messenger wants to speak to you again.”

I look at the screen and see the messenger standing there bouncing on his feet, “Put him on,” I watch as she hands him the phone.

“Yo I just remembered somethin’.”

“What.”

“It might not be much, but when he was talkin’ about that faculty party he was…it was like he was really lookin’ forward to it. I mean like really lookin’ forward to it. That was right after he was talkin’ about you.”

“Do you know when this faculty party is?”

“Naw man I don’t. Sorry.”

“Give Carol back the phone please.”

“Carol give him five and our thanks,” Daevin says once Carol puts the phone to her ear.

“Yes sir,” she says and hangs up. She reaches into her desk and hands the messenger five hundred dollars. He jerks when he sees Carol holding out the money. He takes it quickly and nods at her several times before leaving.

“The department head?” Anthony says, “What would he have against you?”

“I don’t know. But I do know Jessup has issues. He could be involved in this as well.”

“But a faculty party?”

“He might not be talking about that kind of party Anthony,” Daevin says stopping the movie player.

I dial Rena.

“Sir?”

“Have Rames, Iha, Bradshaw, Cook, Lee, Hain, Mair, Villich, Markov, Bailey, Loxsin, Ping, and Jacobsen come back to the office. Taylor, Rose, Camby, Notts, and Richards are to locate Harold Tolemy and Pen Jessup. Find out if any faculty parties being held this week. Have Sun, Moore, Ulin, Parker, Gorse, Anderson, Palmer, Lind, O’Riley, and Sullivan situated within the university. Get them mingling among the professors and students and get chatter on Tolemy and Jessup.”

“Yes sir.”

“Thank you,” I say and end the call.

“What will being on campus do? Isn’t it summer time?”

“They have a full summer session for those that wish to finish school in less that four years. Most professors like giving summer classes so they don’t have to have the traditional schedule of spring and fall semesters.”

“…That line-up…Ares, are you going to…”

“If they are behind this, they disappear.”

“But that’s a department head of a well-known university we’re talkin’ about Ares,” Anthony says, “There will be talk.”

“So be it.”

“Ares…”

I look at him hard, “I want them dead.”

I brief the thirteen I call back to the office on the current suspects when I get a call from Daevin saying that Rena has located Jessup and has Rose tailing him. Tolemy’s vehicle along with another one has been located at his house and there is little activity taking place that is visible from the outside. Fortunately for us Tolemy’s residence is only a ten minute drive north of the university, nineteen minutes total from Siren. The ones stationed around campus have all sent in information that follows what the messenger said about Tolemy. The men then head off to prepare themselves when I get another call.

“Yes.”

“Sir it’s Sullivan. I’ve found someone who’s seen some of the men that took Daniels with me now.”

“Put them on.”

“H-Hello?” the woman’s voice is a bit shaky.

“Hello. My name is Ares Chambers and I'm a private investigator. My men and I are looking for a man by the name of Sky Daniels and I have been told you may have seen who has taken him.”

“I told the police that someone was being taken and they said it was probably just a frat joke but there’s no rushing in the summer.”

“Please tell me what you saw.”

“I was in the parking lot near my car when I dropped my index cards. I was picking them up when I heard someone say sky. Then I heard something like someone fighting and looked up enough to see a bunch of men dressed in all black ganging up on a guy with black hair. They were going at it for a few minutes then the ones in black over took the one guy and a van pulled up and they got inside with him.

After I got blown off by the cops and campus security I went to the deli on Eighth across from the east side of campus about two hours later and I heard the same voice. I thought it sounded familiar, like an old professor so I looked around the corner and saw three men all dressed in black just like the ones earlier but without masks. When I got a look at them I recognized one that was my English professor from my freshman year, Mr. Jessup. Then I remembered seeing him in the hall one day talking to that same guy with black hair that was ganged up on, talking about a pimp or something like that.”

“Did you hear them talk about anything else?”

“Mr. Jessup said something about a get together around eleven tonight. The asked if they were coming and the other two said no. One said he wasn’t interested in guys like that.”

“Did they mention any names or places?”

“Mr. Jessup said some guy’s name. I think it ended in ‘ee’, like it could have been spelled with an ‘i’ or a ‘y’ or something like that. I know the name was foreign. And he said something about being able to do whatever he wanted with the whore. I hope they weren’t talking about that guy.”

“And you’re sure they were some of the same ones you saw from earlier?”

“Yes. I study textiles and I recognized the fabric of their clothes as soon as I saw it.”

“Thank you. You’ve been a big help.”

“I hope you find that guy. I can’t believe the cops didn’t believe me and I saw it with my own eyes.”

“Let me speak with Sullivan again please.”

“Sure.”

“Sir,” Sullivan says seconds later.

“Give her fifteen for her information and contact Rose to find his location and meet up with him.”

“Yes sir.”

I end the call and let out a sigh. I look at my watch, ten fifteen. Eight and a quarter hours since they took my Sky. The woman’s information is indeed helpful. I walk into my office and see Daevin at my desk and Anthony sitting on the couch.

“Anything new?” Daevin asks as I walk over to my desk.

“Sullivan located a woman that ID’d Jessup as one of the kidnappers. She said that he made mention of a get together that he was attending around eleven p.m. She didn’t recognize the name but the way it ended links it to Tolemy. Chances are it could be at his house.”

“Rena said that Taylor, Richards, and Notts have seen no other cars arriving there since they arrived at his house two hours ago. But Tolemy only has one registered in his name so there’s a possibility that others are already there for this get together.”

“The get together is set to start at eleven or at least Jessup should be arriving about that time.”

“Jessup,” Daevin says, “the one that came here and we told to lay off since we had all that evidence against him? He’s got some balls.”

“Not after tonight,” I say dialing Rena.

“Sir?”

“I need the plans of Tolemy’s house.”

“He has a four bedroom colonial with a basement. Richards confirmed that there has been activity in the basement area in her last check in.”

“Good. Tell them to call in as soon as they see anyone coming to the house.”

“Yes. Uh, sir, confirmed. There are vehicles arriving at Tolemy’s residence now.”

They’re starting early, “Thank you,” I say and end the call. I look at Daevin, “Tolemy has a basement so there is a strong possibility that he could be there and they’ve just now confirmed people arriving to his house,” my phone rings again.

“Sir, Jessup is on Allen Parkway East seven blocks from Tolemy’s residence.”

“Thank you,” I say ending the call.

“Where’s his house?” Anthony asks.

Eight twenty-four Allen Parkway East.”

“Whoa, definitely can’t go in that area with guns blazin’. Quite a few higher ups in the police force live in that area, too.”

“That’s what silencers are made for.”

“Ares, you aren’t really…”

“He should have known better than to take him.”

“…Does he…know? About all the stuff that you do here?”

“No.”

“You can’t go on this job Ares,” Daevin says, “Let your team go in and get him.”

“They die, end of story.”

“Ares that will bring about a lot of heat. Two people from the same university ending up dead, maybe more if there are other university staff members at his place?” Anthony says, “And not to mention what it’ll do to Sky. He doesn’t know that you take people’s lives.”

“He knows I’m not a saint either. He can handle it.”

“But he doesn’t know that you’re a killer Ares, that’s a huge difference.”

“I have to agree with Anthony on this Ares,” Daevin says, “It’s one thing if he already knew, I would have no problem with you going in there and taking them out. But you haven’t told him, that’s another matter altogether.”

“In case either of you have forgotten, he was willing to slit Jessup’s throat not too long ago.”

“I’m pretty sure he’s had the great fortune of never having taken someone’s life before. That can change a person. It can also change how they view someone that does. Besides, they’ve hurt him and he should decide how they’re punished.”

They hurt me as well. I hope he wants them to bleed, “…Fine. But I’m still going.”

Daevin sighs, he knows I’ll just follow them anyway, “Any one attending this…soiree can be Rex’s new lab rats. I know those he’ll let run among the people and we can always keep track of them. The main two will have their fate decided by Daniels.”

“And if Sky wants to let them go?” Anthony speaks up.

“Then we damage the life around them. Run them out of town so-to-speak.”

“Then I find them and end them,” I say loosening my tie. They will not get away with taking my Sky. I’d rather they all die but Anthony does have a point. Ending that many people in such a short amount of time will cause problems. It would be far easier to ruin their lives than to take them. They may end up taking their own in the process. I know that my Sky wouldn’t want to spend the rest of his life on the run should it ever come back on us. My phone rings again, “Yes.”

“Your pet is such a joy to play with Ares,” the electronic voice says back to me.

“What do you want?”

“I’ve already got what I want.”

“I want him back.”

“Sorry, but I’m having too much fun. I think I’ll keep him.”

“I will find you and you will pay for touching him.”

“That’s what they all say. You don’t even know where I am let alone who I am.”

“I will see you soon enough,” I say and end the call. Iha walks in just as I close my phone, “Eight twenty-four Allen Parkway East. Now. Take everyone there. I’ll follow.”

“Understood. Resistance?”

“Render them unconscious. We’ll get information on them when we get them back here.”

“Yes sir,” he says and walks out. I look at Daevin and his brother. Daevin shaking his head, Anthony quiet.

“I’m not going to kill anyone unless Sky wants me to,” I say and head out to save my Sky.
